Gastric Band

A gastric band is a way for obese people to permanently fulfill their desire to lose weight. Because men and women who are very overweight are by no means just comfortable and content. For most of those affected, morbid obesity is a psychological as well as a physical problem due to years of excessive calorie intake. Gastric band surgery narrows the stomach. A feeling of satiety occurs sooner. Patients consume fewer calories. Diabetes, diseases of the cardiovascular system, high blood pressure, bone problems, gout and depression are often stressful consequences of being overweight.

The causes of obesity are very different and range from incorrect or excessive diet to too little exercise and genetic predispositions. Those affected have usually had multiple failed diet attempts. This often leads to frustration and stress due to being overweight. When the gastric band is inserted, the stomach is narrowed. As a result, food intake and digestion are slowed down. A feeling of satiety occurs more quickly and therefore fewer calories are consumed.

The gastric band can remain in the body indefinitely. An important factor for the positive effect of the gastric band is the sensible change in the patient’s diet. Combined with regular exercise, stomach reduction surgery can help you achieve a healthy weight in the long term.

Before inserting the gastric band, existing diseases of the esophagus, stomach, organs, abdominal cavity, bulimia, alcoholism and severe psychoses should be ruled out. Drug addicts and pregnant women are not allowed to have a gastric band inserted.

The implantation of a gastric band takes place after the consultation and internal examinations in the Czech Republic under general anesthesia and takes about two hours. A silicone band with the function of a cuff is inserted into the upper part of the stomach using an optical surgical instrument.

This band contracts the stomach in such a way that the forestomach, which first absorbs the food, now only has a volume of around 100 to 150 ml. When eating solid food, the upper stomach can soon fill up. A quick feeling of satiety may occur.

There is a sufficiently large opening between the forestomach and stomach through which food can pass. Since each patient can lose weight quickly or react to the gastric band individually, it is possible to optimally adjust the gastric band on an outpatient basis.

If the band is implanted, you can feel full for several hours after eating small amounts of food and calories. Overall, only a much smaller total amount of food can be consumed throughout the day. The way for weight loss is paved.

Experience has shown that patients can stand up with support and drink small amounts of tea just a few hours after the operation. A final examination takes place on the second day in the clinic. In the first week after the operation, the patient is only allowed to consume liquid food. Most patients can go about their daily routine again just two weeks after gastric band surgery. Typically, you will lose up to 2 kg per month in the first two years after the procedure.

The description of the operation is generally phrased and can’t replace the personal consultation with the cosmetic surgeon. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to show before/after pictures, due to the fact that this is forbidden by the Law on Advertising in the Health Care System.
